Af2 Daytona Beach Thunderbirds 2nd Tryouts and other news

 

Saturday January 5, 2008.  Mark your calendars!  The af2 Daytona Beach Thunderbirds will be having their 2nd open tryout at the Spec Martin Stadium in downtown Deland.  Registration begins at 8am with workouts to begin promptly at 9am.  The cost for registration is $60.  Cash or money orders only!  No refunds.  All participants will receive a Thunderbirds t-shirt.

Our local indoor football team was facing a fourth-and-forever situation last week, and Daytona Beach Thunder CEO Zack McDonald completed a desperation pass.

The organization had pulled out of the World Indoor Football League, a league it helped form just a year ago.

Time was running out on the opportunity for the Thunder to join another league in time to play in 2008 season.

The team had targeted the Arena Football League 2 (AF2), but it seemed like a long shot.

There didn't seem to be enough money. There didn't seem to be enough time.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – News of two of his players making the World Indoor Football League’s inaugural all-league team left Daytona Beach Thunder coach Leon Bright smiling Friday. It was all but a given that wide receiver Cory McKinney would be named one of the league’s top four receivers, but Bright got an additional surprise when linebacker Joe Giddens also earned a spot on the defensive side.

COLUMBUS, Ga. --  On Friday night,in the final game of his career,Barry Wagner had four catches for 43 yards as a receiver, and two tackles as a defensive back and linebacker for the Daytona Beach Thunder of the World Indoor Football League. A game that the Thunder won 52-40. It wasn't the most impressive stat line of his 15-year football career, but it's indicative of the type of  football player that he was: An Ironman....

FOUR FINNIE TOUCHDOWNS FOIL THUNDER 62-23

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The game began with Osceola’s Lamont Finnie returning the opening kickoff 58 yards for a touchdown. Then things got worse for the Daytona Beach Thunder. A pumped up Ghostriders (3-2) team took the Thunder (1-4) by the final score of 62-23.
