ThunderBirds Win First Home Game in Franchise History by Knocking off the Albany Conquest 62-53DAYTONA BEACH, FL – Four days after winning their first game in franchise history, the ThunderBirds enjoyed another first on Thursday evening when the knocked off the Albany Conquest 62-53. Daytona Beach ThunderBirds QB Matt Bohnet passed for 290 yards and 8 touchdowns.  Daytona’s win excited the crowd of  1,500 who showed up to watch the ThunderBirds try to make it two wins in a row after knocking off the Manchester Wolves on the road last Sunday.  After opening the season with five straight losses and a coaching change after week 2, the ThunderBirds look like a new team under Head Coach Gary Compton....

Jocques Richardson Named arenafootball2 Defensive Player of the Week

DAYTONA BEACH, FL – The ThunderBirds won their first game in franchise history on Sunday and on Tuesday, the team celebrated another milestone.  Jocques Richardson, a defensive back out of football powerhouse Miami Northwestern High School was awarded the arenafootball2 ADT Defensive Player of the Week.  This award recognizes the best performance by a defensive player from the previous week’s action.  Richardson is the first player in ThunderBirds history to be given a player of the week award.  Richardson had four tackles and two interceptions including a 50 yard interception return for a touchdown on the final play of the game to secure a 56-42 victory for the ThunderBirds over the Manchester Wolves.  For the season, Richardson leads the team with 20.5 tackles and three interceptions.

DAYTONA BEACH, FL – The Daytona Beach ThunderBirds upgraded their offensive line this week having been assigned two new players, Brian Ross and Tellis Rodgers, by the arenafootball2 League Office.  Both have been slated to move into the starting Guard and Tight End spots.
